Courtyard Design Ideas
An interior courtyard is the living room in the garden of a house that is closest to real outdoor space. Provide the ultimate in privacy and create a space you’ll love with these favorite backyard ideas. Courtyards are outdoor spaces that are fully or partially enclosed by a fence, wall, or even plants, resulting in the ultimate private outdoor oasis. Courtyards typically do not have a ceiling cover and let in sunlight, which also allows for indoor green spaces. The best thing about backyards is that as long as you are aware of the size and dimensions, you can create a comfortable outdoor living space even in the smallest of spaces. When renovating an existing yard or building a new yard, consider the following design considerations, including ideas for walls, floors, landscaping, etc.
If you are planning to add a yard to your home, consider how it will face the sun and how you will enter and exit the house and garden. The more entrances there are into the inner courtyard, the more space will be used. Whatever material you use, make sure the yard soil drains from the house. Before you build a yard, you should also consider privacy. One way is to provide a partial awning by extending the rafters over the new structure.

If you are planning to expand your home, add a yard to your plans. The project may not cost as much as you might think. For example, if you add an office, an extra bedroom, or even an attached garage, you can add the same structure 15 or 20 feet from the house. The additional costs you will incur will be for a wall (which will no longer be shared with the rest of the house) and the hallway needed to connect the new structure to the existing house. You can then enclose the yard with a fence or a thick hedge.
The main concern of a yard is usually to look inside, not the outside. When designing a yard, consider the views of all windows (including the ones above) and doors that lead to the yard. If you have a good view from the yard, consider cutting a window into a yard wall to frame it. If you build windows in the walls or fences of your yard, space will also expand.
