These barns are designed to contain simple carpentry with modern wood frame screws and a few steel plates that are just screwed. If you can cut simple angles with an artisan saw, drill holes with a snail and turn a wrench, you can use these plans to build your own posts and beams. If you choose to build a barn, combining your wish list with a dose of practical reality, you get a barn that gives you pleasure, saves money, and allows years of active use.

There are reasons why barns are traditionally painted red – they are the functional and metaphorical heart of every farm. The barn protects cows and cats, horses, and hay. They remind you of exploration, discovery, safety, and comfort. The barns are the center of summer activity and an oasis of winter calm. They age more gracefully than houses or people and acquire their own personality over time. We instinctively talk about barns because barns like most Americans make a living.

Property

If you are lucky enough to have an existing barn on your property, you may have played with the question of whether you want to convert or replace it. On the other hand, you may have unconsciously adapted your needs and habits to the parameters of the barn. Whatever your approach, you will likely spend as much time in the barn as in the house. Therefore, it makes sense to create a functional, efficient, and pleasant space to work.

Only you can judge your true needs. Are you more likely to use a well-designed dryer and rat-proof bins or a wet bar with Dolby sound every day? Combining your wish list with a dose of practical reality creates a barn that you enjoy, save money, and allow years of active use. Of course, “location, location, location” is primarily about building a barn. The structure itself can be elaborate or simple, but the location is independent of the design. Horses smell good, but that doesn’t mean you want to live off their stands right in front of the wind. This flat area at the foot of the hill appears to be interesting until it becomes a floodplain next winter.
